Volunteering at the Guerrero Clinic was an incredibly rewarding experience. Throughout the week, our team provided free eye and dental care to those in need in Guerrero, Chihuahua, Mexico. It was especially meaningful to share this journey with my son, giving him the opportunity to see firsthand the impact of service and compassion for others. ... During our time at the clinic, we saw over 800 patients--an impressive testament to the dedication and teamwork of all the volunteers and staff. Together, we performed 307 cataract surgeries, restoring vision and changing lives for hundreds of individuals. Additionally, we dispensed 144 pairs of custom glasses, helping many people see clearly for the first time. The Guerrero Clinic is truly a place where families can serve together, learn about new cultures, and make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Dr. Swift has just returned from a very successful charity clinic at The Guerrero Surgery and Education Center in Guerrero, Mexico. She was a part of an amazing group of American and Mexican Volunteers. 400 patients were seen and 282 cataract surgeries were performed. ... So many individuals are helped at each clinic but some stand out in our memories. At this clinic there was a 21-year-old young lady who is deaf in one ear and nearly deaf in the other. About 5 months ago she underwent a medical procedure that caused dense cataracts to form in both eyes, thus causing blindness. She received cataract surgery in one eye. Dr. Swift did her one-day post-op visit and she was seeing 20/40-2!!! This young lady had entered the clinic before surgery so cautious and scared, she left beaming. Moments like this make all the hard work so worth it!
